Development

All Xrail partners have successfully connected their capacity management systems to the Xrail Capacity Booking Broker
About 600.000 transports annually are now seamlessly booked and run capacity-checked across the entire network
Various benefits are thus available for Xrail partners as well as indirectly for their customers in Single Wagonload
In 2025, the Alliance partners DB Cargo, Green Cargo, Hexafret, Rail Cargo Austria and Xrail teamed up for the kick-off of the Xrail-TSI project to consequently remove interoperability barriers. The goal of Xrail-TSI is to upgrade telematics application and exchange protocols to seek compliance with Technical Specification for Interoperability (TSI) in the field of Capacity and traffic management, Management of freight wagons and their shipments and Train preparation

In 2018, DB Cargo is linking its domestic booking system to the XCB broker and Fret SNCF joins the Alliance in 2018, thereby significantly expanding the Xrail network
The Wagonload systems of Green Cargo, Fret SNCF are step-by-step also connected to the XCB broker and respective volumes ramped-up for booking via XCB
In 2020, Xrail Sweden AB is founded in Stockholm. It serves the Alliance as an IT powerhouse and is responsible for all IT developments and IT operations

Beginning of 2013, the members pledge themselves to an industry change to develop a sustainable model for the European Single Wagonload
From 2013 to 2015, Xrail successfully manages to derive common standards and processes for Xrail Capacity Booking and develops a state-of-the-art broker system at a central level
By 2016, CFL cargo, Lineas, Rail Cargo Group and SBB Cargo initially link their booking systems via the XCB broker and thereafter pilot the new system

Beginning of 2010, the Xrail Alliance is formally founded
From 2010 to 2012, Xrail develops a first set of IT tools to automatically provide international transport plans, status messages and Track & Trace information on selected transport relations
